Reel Opportunities
Camera Department
Responsible for capturing the action and performances of a film or TV show visually.
The cinematographer starts working with the director in pre-production to design the lighting and visual look of the film. On set, the camera team deals with the operation of the camera, setting apertures, adjusting focus, making sure the right lens is being used, turning it on when the A.D. shouts “Roll film!” and off when the Director yells, “Cut!”. They work closely with the Electrical department on lighting each shot, and the Grip department on setting up the camera to move in whatever way the shot demands.
