About Us

We love hearing from you.

Our Story

In 2005, REEL CANADA brought its travelling festival of Canadian film into six Toronto high schools. Today, we respond to 2500 teacher requests per year and run a national day celebrating Canadian cinema that reaches millions. How the heck did that happen?

Our Team

REEL CANADA is a team of creative, hard-working movie lovers from coast-to-coast working together to bring their passion for Canadian film to all! Learn more about our team and current job opportunities.

Our Programmes

Our Films in Our Schools, Welcome to Canada, CanFilmDay, Reel Opportunities, and more: REEL CANADA’s programming is created with the unique needs of its diverse audiences in mind. All of REEL CANADA’s programmes are completely free of charge.

Our Sponsors

REEL CANADA is grateful for the support of our government and industry funders, sponsors and partners. Through their support, we can continue celebrating our shared values – diversity, tolerance, inclusivity, honesty and respect – through Canadian film.

The short answer is: everyone in Canada (and even beyond) who is interested in Canadian identity, culture, and of course, movies. While most of REEL CANADA’s educational programmes are geared toward students in JK to Grade 12, we also serve English-language learners of all ages (including adults) through our Welcome to Canada programme; youth (up to the age of 30) who are interested in careers in the film industry through our Reel Opportunities programme; and also the general film-loving public through National Canadian Film Day.

You may send a secure online screening link to programming@reelcanada.ca or a DVD copy to our office, and our programming team will watch it. Please note that our programming process is extremely rigorous and must take into account the complexities of the education system as well as the needs and interests of our audiences. We test screen all potential films with high school audiences as well as teachers, and an extremely limited number of new films are added each year. If your film is approved by our programming team and also selected by our educational partners, we will get in touch with you to discuss next steps. This process takes a while, so please be patient.
