Watch a great Canadian film and then join us for an interactive discussion with the filmmakers, stars, and student peers across the country.

Upcoming Livestreams

RCtv Livestreams offer teachers a compelling way to use Canadian films in the classroom to cover timely topics such as diversity, inclusion, and Reconciliation from a distinctly Canadian perspective. Students get the opportunity to engage in conversation with their peers from all across the country and with filmmakers, stars, or other special guests. The event includes lesson plans, support resources, and of course, access to the film. See below for more details.

For those who are unable to participate live on the event day, an interactive recording will also be available immediately afterwards.

CanFilmDay 2023 Livestream

April 19, 2023

This year’s livestream for grades 9 to 12 will focus on diversity, inclusion, and reconciliation. This event will also be the best way for high schools to participate in the tenth anniversary (Wow!) of National Canadian Film Day, the largest film festival in the world. Check back soon for programming announcements and updates.

In addition to the livestreams, teachers also get:
  • Access to the Canadian film(s) discussed in each livestream
  • Lesson plans that connect the films and themes to the curriculum
  • Resources to help teachers guide a discussion of sensitive content with students
  • A list of Bonus Films on the same themes that can be borrowed to extend learning

HOW DOES IT WORK?

  1. REGISTER: Fill out our online registration form to access the livestream
  2. BEFORE THE LIVESTREAM: Watch the film(s) with your students via a streaming link or DVD provided by REEL CANADA
  3. LIVESTREAM: Log in to watch the live show, or a recording of the livestream
  4. PARTICIPATE From their own devices, students access our interactive platform to participate via polling questions, instant reactions, discussion threads, and more

WHO CAN PARTICIPATE?

  • Any publicly-funded school in Canada
  • The entire programme is suitable for in-class or remote learning
  • Specific grade levels are listed on the page for each livestream
  • Watching a recording? Your students can still log in to our interactive platform to read and contribute to the discussion
  • This year’s Livestreams will be conducted in English, but bilingual access to both will be available through subtitled recordings, and lesson plans are offered in both official languages.
